This information will help you decide whether or not to have Laser In-Situ Keratomileusis (LASIK) surgery to correct or partly correct your nearsightedness (myopia), farsightedness (hyperopia) and/or astigmatism. Some other ways to correct nearsightedness, farsightedness and/or astigmatism are glasses, contact lenses, and other kinds of refractive surgery such as radial keratonomy (RK) or photorefractive keratectomy (PRK).

If both of your eyes are nearsighted, farsighted and/or astigmatic, your doctor may recommend LASIK surgery for both eyes. However, sometimes it is better to have LASIK done on only one eye. Talk with your doctor about whether it would be better to treat one or both of your eyes.

Please read this document closely. Discuss any questions with your doctor before you decide if LASIK is right for you. Only an eye care professional trained and certified in LASIK can determine whether or not you are a suitable candidate. Some people, such as military pilots, have job-related vision requirements that can not be met by having LASIK.

Schedule a consultation with Spectrum Eye Institute and we can tell you more about the LASIK procedure and answer your questions.  Call Spectrum Eye Institute at 815 729-3777
